Reference Values of Pulse Wave Velocity in South America: A Call to Action
نویسندگان
چکیده
The measurement of pulse wave velocity (PWV) is a wellknown technique currently considered the gold standard of arterial stiffness quantification due to its simplicity, accuracy, reproducibility, and predictive value [1]. Recently, the guidelines from the European Society of Hypertension confirmed the PWV as a marker of organ damage having better cardiovascular predictive value, greater reproducibility and acceptable costeffectiveness relationship [2]. Contemporary guidelines pointed out that values of carotid-femoral PWV > 10 m/s (corrected distance x 0.8) should be considered beyond the physiological range emphasizing the relevance of identifying changes in PWV as a prognostic factor and an early marker of vascular stiffness [2]. However, the lack of appropriate hardware in the clinical setting limits a wide utilization of this technique.

Corrigendum to “Reference Values of Pulse Wave Velocity in Healthy People from an Urban and Rural Argentinean Population”
In medical practice the reference values of arterial stiffness came from multicenter registries obtained in Asia, USA, Australia and Europe. Pulse wave velocity (PWV) is the gold standard method for arterial stiffness quantification; however, in South America, there are few population-based studies. In this research PWV was measured in healthy asymptomatic and normotensive subjects without hist...

Carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity is an established method for characterizing aortic stiffness, an individual predictor of cardiovascular mortality in adults. Normal pulse wave velocity values for the pediatric population derived from a large data collection have yet to be available. The aim of this study was to create a reference database and to characterize the factors determining pulse wav...
متن کاملDeterminants of pulse wave velocity in healthy people and in the presence of cardiovascular risk factors: ‘establishing normal and reference values’
AIMS Carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (PWV), a direct measure of aortic stiffness, has become increasingly important for total cardiovascular (CV) risk estimation. Its application as a routine tool for clinical patient evaluation has been hampered by the absence of reference values. The aim of the present study is to establish reference and normal values for PWV based on a large European pop...
متن کاملEvaluating the Liquefaction Potential of Soil in the South and Southeast of Tehran based on the Shear Wave Velocity through Empirical Relationships
The liquefaction resistance of soil can be evaluated using laboratory tests such as cyclic simple shear, cyclic triaxial, cyclic torsional shear as well as field methods like Standard Penetration Test (SPT), Cone Penetration Test (CPT) and Shear Wave Velocity (Vs). In this regard, this study attempts to compare the results of the SPT based on the simplified procedure proposed by Seed and Idriss...

Background: Dementia is a common health problem in the elderly. Studies have shown that levels of pulse wave velocity (PWV) could predict cognitive impairment. The objective of this study was assessment of the relationship between arterial stiffness levels and cognitive status among the older people. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 60 individuals included 31 women and 29 men aged ≥ 60 ...
